A Mother's Day Letter
To my Mom, Marye Josephine Lombardo In Care of Heaven
Happy Mother's Day, Mom
It's hard to believe that we said goodbye more than thirty years ago ! (January 21, 1984) How swiftly the years have fled since that day, but I can even still hear your voice in my mind. And I wonder if you're allowed to hear mine all the way from Heaven. I'd like to think so, you know.
Thinking of you, it's easy to remember your love for the outdoors, the trees and flowers and your love for every garden that you tended. At the first signs of Spring, you were the first one in the neighborhood to get out your spades and rakes and hoses. Nothing made you happier than to start planning your next vegetable garden, and your first trip to the "Fruit Basket" to see your old friend, Doris, the owner of that little piece of Heaven to you. Daylight extended, you were so happy to ignore the sink full of dishes, and housekeeping chores until Venus appeared in the night sky !!
Being your only daughter, I was the recipient of your "mother-henning" right up until the day of your departure. In your eyes, I could do no wrong ! Well, almost. Then came your first grandchild, Ric. Oh how you adored him ! And then came David.........your little blue-eyed boy, and dearly loved. But then, as if all your love was spent on those two little guys......along came Paula Marie ! More than enough loving to go around ! I don't know how I would've managed at all, if you hadn't been in our lives. My gratitude was never sufficiently shown to you, and I would like to spend eternity letting you know how much it meant to me, a working mom.
I believe that no other Grandma ever topped your selfless ways, or your sacrificial love !
Never a day goes by without my quoting your "sayings" beginning with......"My mother used to say......." or "your grandma used to say"
"It's always darkest before the dawn" and "Nothing lasts forever" were just a sample of your brand of cheering me up. Your house was always open to whosoever needed a cup of coffee, some lively conversation, and your delightful sense of humor ! And no one went away without a gift from your "gift closet", or your freshly home baked bread. Your generous spirit of giving was known to all who even made your slightest acquaintance.
Your greatest passion was every upcoming Christmas season, when your artistic juices really ran rampant. From beaded tree ornament balls to an exquisite Nativity Scene set you crafted in your ceramic class, where you excelled from the very first try. The evergreen was the first one up, and the last one down in your windows ! Always with your nose in the latest "Better Homes & Gardens" magazine, how you loved home decorating, garden ideas, and all those mouth watering recipes.
Looking back, Mom, I now realize that you were a woman of so many talents, so many friends, and so many contributions to our lives ! How I thank and praise God for having given you for my mom! And for giving you to Ric, David, and Paula you for their Grandma. So I have to say it with all of my heart........Thank You a million times over !
Because you prayed a simple prayer, and gave your heart to Jesus the Messiah, and then spent a beautiful seven years in love with Him and giving Him your gratitude, I have the peaceful assurance that we will be together again ! What a wonderful day that will be !
Meantime, I send my love and this most emphatic greeting;
Happy Mother's Day, Mom !
Your Daughter, With Love,
Rosemarie
(P.S. Please give my grandma, your mom, Maria, a gigantic hug and kisses from me !
How I love and miss her too!)
